Aussie Stranded's Safari twist is still the worst I've seen.

Making a note of my hatred for any twist that involves gifting from the dead, be it clues to an idol or some advantage. #suckstosuck, why reward it?

Yeah but Safari let other tribes infiltrate the losing tribe to make them weaker. OBVIOUSLY Vaincre and Esprit were going to take out Durer's strongest members... Poor Christina and Lisa. icon_cry

But yeah you're right, I shouldn't have ignored the twist, but I wanted to prove a point and show that if we ignored it, it would be a non-factor.

Regardless, I'm going to bitch about this for eternity.

Oh I know. I'm just noting that's the worst twist I've come across. I've seen it several times too. I think the idea is that it generally rewards the minority so it helps balance the game or something? Fuck that. Reward the players who play well and sod the minority.

I think playing well is hard to define in games like this. At any rate, classifying who is playing well and who isnt based on who is and isnt in the majority isnt an effective way of rating performance IMO.

Best example from my experience is when Rob fucked over Christy and Jo in Greece. Were Christy and Jo bad players because they were left in a very clear minority? Obviously not, its just the way the cards are dealt.

I think Minority vs Majority discussions are more relevant with team related analogies. For example 'You're only as strong as your weakest player' and so the Helios 4 that were voting together during the merge in Greece were a stronger group compared to the Asteria lunatics in crazy man Ted, flipper Daniel and batshit Rob. Christy and Jo werent bad players but they were caught in a weaker alliance?

Anyway that probably means nothing to do with anything but it always bugs me when players are assessed on performance solely on things like their placement (or in your minority vs majority argument Brenda). Considering your fate in games like this is directly in the hands of the other pinheads you're playing with, it really is a very fickle game sometimes and you can lose by doing absolutely nothing wrong.

I see what your saying, but in this instance - eh say AusStranded Tonga, or Stranded in Refuge - both allowed the boots to decide who got the idol clues. Fair enough the odd time the majority isn't necessarily the better players, but for the most part it holds true. I've seen it elsewhere too, especially with money twists. Whoever gets the chop gets to gift it to whoever they want, which again, just seems to screw over the better players or at least, the players who are making successful moves more often.

I'm not saying reward the majority either necessarily, but don't punish them for playing better.

When you're only as strong as your weakest player, and you have a twist that rewards the weakest player, it kind of sucks to be honest. This twist was for the 3 tribe phase, which made it even more heavy. Troy and Kat were going to be booted because they were horrible in challenges and they were horrible communicators, while me, Lisa, and Christina arguably would have held all of the challenge weight and probably would have won the counting one. But yeah, it was stupid of me to ignore the twist, but I fucking hated it the minute it was announced, so I wanted to act like it wasn't there. I guess I never anticipated that it would let all the weak players band together... (Kat wasn't THAT bad, but she had nothing on Lisa, Christina, and I. But Troy was fucking AWFUL.)

I think it's so unfair when one player get's the advantage like that. At first the winning leader got to give the clue and from memory Phillip got the first clue and he was an inactive and then Sarita got the next clue because her two partners were the strongest and most vocal being Sophie and Andrea, not that that idol was much use to her anyway as she was blindsided with it. I had inactive Semhar as one of my partners so she was never going to say to give it to Jim as she was never around.

Once the merge came, that's when the person voted out got to give someone the idol and although I still thought it was unfair one person was given the clear advantage it actually made you be more of a target which was the case with me when PB gave me the clue. Those left assumed I had the idol and they were in a position to split the votes to try and flush it out.

I actually like the way it was done in CR where anyone could get the idol however in doing so would disadvantage your tribe. Everyone had an equal shot at getting it so no one had an advantage over anyone else. Much better was than this season where the whole tribe got the clue.

The whole idea behind Safari was to have people establishing cross-tribal alliances and actively going through using them by voting together at Tribal Council. The last few season's we've just too many pagongings happening all over the place, not necessarily Tonga cos of the groups but Season 6, 7 and 8 were all pagongings when we got to the merge despite the game format things we put in to try and prevent that and encourage a host of alliances.

So when we put Safari together we wanted to try and have people building alliances with other people from other tribes. Now early on in the game when there were 6 people and having one person from another tribe come in to vote wouldnt make much difference, even if that one person did vote against a stronger player you still had everybody else who could vote off the inactive or the shit cunt so it wouldnt be so detrimental.

But later on it encouraged people to form alliances with people they wouldnt have gotten the chance to until later in the game which we thought was good and it ended up leading to a complete batshit merge where just random shit kept happening. We did lose the obvious HBICs in consecutive Tribals (I think it went Kim -> Dawson -> Colton??) which were the three most obvious threats, but then it got really good after that.

So I liked the twist personally, if you chose to ignore it you paid the price, but then you should never ever ignore a game format twist like that, it is there for players to take advantage of so that is what you should be doing lol.

Haha I get it, but still. Oh well.

And to correct you, it went Kim - Colton - Dawsome.
